What is the Alberta AINP Program?

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is an immigration program managed by the Government of Alberta. The AINP allows the province to recruit skilled workers who possess the necessary work experience and training to fill job vacancies in Alberta.

Successful applicants to the program can receive permanent residence through a Provincial Nomination (PN) from Alberta.

Alberta Immigration Streams

If you're considering moving to Alberta, there are currently eight immigration streams available. This guide will help you determine which stream suits your situation-

1. Alberta Opportunity Stream: This program is for qualified individuals who are now engaged in an Alberta-eligible profession.

2. The Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway: This pathway, which is a component of the Express Entry stream, is intended for those who are employed in Alberta's tech sector or have been offered a position in one of the 38 approved occupations.

3. Alberta General Express Entry Stream: Open to applicants for Express Entry who presently hold a qualifying job and have a CRS score of at least 300.

4. Rural Renewal Stream: For applicants who have received a job offer from a company in a rural area of Albert

5. Farm Stream: This stream is for those who wish to operate a farming business in Alberta.

6. Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream: This program is for foreign nationals who graduated outside Canada and wish to start a business in Alberta.

7. Graduate Entrepreneur Stream: This program is for international graduates of designated post-secondary institutions in Alberta who want to start a business.

8. Rural Entrepreneur Stream: This stream is for entrepreneurs looking to start or acquire a business in a rural Alberta community.

Ø Alberta Opportunity Stream

The Alberta Opportunity Stream is available for foreign nationals working in Alberta and international graduates who have completed their studies at an approved Alberta post-secondary institution, allowing them to apply for provincial nomination.

Application Fee: CAD $500

Process Overview: Interested candidates must apply online through the AAIP portal. Applicants will need to submit specific documents according to their circumstances and pay the online application fee.

Minimum Requirements:

Must have a valid work permit.
Must be employed in an eligible occupation in Alberta that aligns with your work experience.
Must have a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level of 4 or 5, depending on the occupation.
Must have at least a high school diploma.
Must have a minimum of 12 months of work experience in Alberta within the last 18 months, or a minimum of 24 months of work experience in Canada within the last 30 months.

Ø Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway

Eligibility:

Must be in the Express Entry pool.
Must express an interest in permanently settling in Alberta.
Must have a CRS score of at least 300.
Must be working or have a job offer in an eligible tech occupation in Alberta.
Work full-time in Alberta or having a job offer for full-time work in Alberta

Application Fee: CAD $500

Application Process:

Submit an online form via the AAIP website.
If eligible, candidates receive an invitation to apply for provincial nomination.

Ø Alberta Express Entry Stream

Eligibility:

Must be in the Express Entry pool.
Must express an interest in permanently settling in Alberta.
Must work in an occupation that supports Alberta’s economic development and diversification.
Must have a CRS score of at least 300.
Have work experience in the province

Have a parent, child, brother or sister who is a permanent resident or Canadian citizen of Alberta or Have work experience in the province

Application Fee: CAD $500

Application Process:

This stream works by invitation only.
Candidates with an Express Entry profile may receive a Notification of Interest (NOI) from Alberta.
Invited candidates must express their interest and, if selected, submit an application through the AAIP portal.

Ø Rural Renewal Stream

Eligibility:

Must have a valid full-time job offer or employment contract in a designated rural community.
Must have at least 12 months of full-time work experience in an eligible occupation within the last 18 months.
Must meet minimum language requirements.
Must have a high school education equivalent to the Canadian standard.
Must show sufficient funds to support yourself and your family.
Must intend to and be able to reside and work in the designated community in Alberta

Application Fee: CAD $500

Application Process:

Obtain support from a participating community in Alberta.
Submit your application to the AAIP with a letter of support from the community.

Ø Farm Stream

Eligibility:

Must have farm management skills.
Must have sufficient financial resources (minimum investment of CAD $500,000).
Must provide a business plan.

Application Fee: CAD $500

Application Process:

Submit a business plan to the Alberta government.
If approved, gather required documents and complete forms for both Alberta and IRCC.

Ø Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

Eligibility:

Must have at least six months of full-time business management experience.
Must have a business plan with projected financials.
Must have a post-secondary education from a foreign institution with an ECA.
Must own at least 34% of the business in an urban area or 51% in a regional area.
Must make a minimum investment of $100,000 (urban) or $50,000 (regional).
Must have a letter of recommendation from an AAIP-approved agency.
Must show sufficient funds to support yourself and your family.

Application Fee: CAD $3,500

Application Process:

Work with a designated agency to obtain a letter of recommendation.
Submit the letter of recommendation with your EOI through the AAIP portal.
Provide a written report from the agency on your business plan.

Ø Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

Eligibility:

Must have completed at least two years of full-time education in Alberta.
Must hold a valid Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP).
Must have a minimum CLB level of 7.
Must own at least 34% of the business.
Completed education in Alberta

Application Fee: CAD $3,500

Application Process:

Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the AAIP portal.
High-ranking candidates will be invited to submit a Business Application.

Ø Rural Entrepreneur Stream

Eligibility:

Must have at least three years of business ownership/management experience or four years of senior management experience within the last 10 years.
Must have a high school education equivalent to the Canadian standard with an ECA.
Must have a minimum CLB level of 4.
Must have a minimum net worth of $300,000.
Must invest at least $200,000 from personal or spousal/common-law partner equity.
Must have a Community Support Letter from a participating rural Alberta community.
Must have a community support letter from a participating rural Alberta community

Application Fee: CAD $3,500

Application Process:

Make contact with a participating rural community and plan an exploratory visit.
Provide a business proposal and obtain a support letter from the community.
Submit an EOI to the AAIP.
