What is Youth Mobility Scheme Visa (UK)

 

Tier 5 Youth Mobility visa also known as the Youth Mobility Scheme Visa is designed for those between the ages of 18 to 30 years old from certain prescribed countries with intent to work and reside in the United Kingdom. The process of applying for a visa is quite easy and those who are fortunate enough to be granted one can work in the UK for up to 2 years.

Job Requirements

You are eligible to apply if:

  • Wish to come to the UK as a tourist/student/temporary worker for up to a year or 2
  • Are aged between 18 and 30 or 18 and 35 depending on the country they hail from.
  • Have £2,530 in savings
  • Hold a specific category of British Nationality or be from a selected country or territory as stipulated in the regulations and prerequisites.

Duration of Stay

Depending on the type of applicant, you will be granted permission to live and work in the UK for up to two years from the time you enter the country.

 

You are free to arrive in the UK at any time you wish as per the validity of your visa and also to leave and travel back at any time you wish during your trip.

If you become 31 years old or older on the day on which your visa was issued, you can stay in the United Kingdom for any length of time whereas your visa remains valid.

If holding an Australian, Canadian, or New Zealand visa you can extend your visa for one year upon completion of the 2-year program.

Extending Your Stay

To be eligible for an extension of your Youth Mobility Scheme visa, you can only be from Australia, Canada, or New Zealand. You can get another one-year visa if your current visa is still valid.

 

To extend your visa, you must:

 

  • Be currently living in the UK
  • Must have a Youth Mobility Scheme visa to be allowed in the country.

 

Your visa will start from the next day of your previous visa’s expiring date and you can only renew it one time.

 

Cost

You’ll need to pay:



  • The £298 application fee
  • Immigration health expense of £776

 

Online Extension

To extend your visa, one has to fill out a form online and should apply at least 28 days before the expiry of the current visa but not more than 28 days.

When To Apply

The earliest you can apply for a visa is 6 months before you travel. As part of your application, you’ll need to prove your identity and provide your documents.

You may need to allow extra time if you need an appointment to do this. You’ll find out if you need one when you start your application.

Application Process

  • See which documents you will be required to give when applying. 
  • On the application process, you are also required to provide the healthcare surcharge fee as well. Determine how much you will be required to pay before you apply. 
  • If you are a holder of a passport from Hong Kong or Taiwan, you have to first be successful in the Youth Mobility Scheme’s shuffle before you apply for the visa. 

 

 Application from outside the United Kingdom 

 An applicant can only apply for the Youth Mobility Scheme visa online. To prove the identity of the applicant as well as the credibility of the documents submitted. 

Taking into account the procedure to complete the application, you will be required to provide identity details. How you do this depends on the country of origin, type of passport, the embassy, the reason, the documents, the fees, and the time. 

 

 You’ll either: 

 

  • The application entails having your fingerprints and photograph taken at a visa application center – this is for the biometric residence permit. 
  • Use the ‘UK Immigration: ‘ID Check’ application, through which, you will be required to upload your identity document and, if you have not already done so, create or log into your UKVI account. 

 

 You shall be informed of what is expected of you every time you apply. 

 

When an appointment is required:

 

 In some cases, depending on your application type you may be required to surrender your passport and other documents to the center for processing.  Sometimes you may have to visit your nearest visa application Centre and this may be in another country.

 

 You might be able to get a quick one at an additional cost.

 

 If you have a child after relocation

 

·       Even if you have a child, she or he does not qualify as a British citizen in case you are in the United Kingdom. 

 

·       You can apply for their visa for you as a dependent electronically. You have to do this if you intend to bring your child in and out of the UK. 

 

·       You will be required to submit a certified copy of both parents’ full birth certificates from the United Kingdom, or a certification of British overseas territory, for every child. 

 

Decision Timeline

 

  • 3 weeks after application and all documents have been verified

Permitted and Restricted Activities

What You Can Do:

  • Study – certain courses are going to require an Academic Technology Approval Scheme certificate
  • work for eligible jobs
  • Be self-employed and have your own business running – as long as you rent the premises, no fixed assets except for equipment worth more than £5 000 are owned, and no employees work for you

What you cannot do

 

  • Act as a professional sportsperson, for example, as a trainer
  • Stay longer if you are not a citizen of Australia, Canada, or New Zealand.
  • Get public funds
  • Include family members on your application – they will have to complete a separate application

Checking Job Eligibility

If you’re from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Korea

You can apply for the visa if you’re aged 18 to 35 and from:

 

  • New Zealand
  • South Korea
  • Australia
  • Canada

 

You must be 18 years old and above at the time your visa commences or 35 years and below when you apply for the visa. It can be applied even before the applicant attains the age of 18 and the applicant can even be 35 plus when it starts.

If you are from other parts of the world

 

You can apply for the visa if you’re aged 18 to 30 and from:

 

  • Monaco
  • San Marino
  • Uruguay
  • Andorra
  • Iceland
  • Japan

 

You are required to be part of the Youth Mobility Scheme ballot before you can apply for your visa if you’re from:

 

  • Hong Kong, if you have a SAR passport
  • Taiwan

 

If you’re aged 18 to 30, you can apply if you fall under:

  • British overseas citizen
  • British Overseas Territories citizen
  • British national (overseas)

 

You must have been aged 18 or over when the visa commenced or aged thirty or under when the visa was applied for. You can begin your application before you reach 18 years of age and you may be over 30 when it starts.

When you cannot apply

 

The application cannot be carried out if:

 

  • Children below the age of 18 who live with you
  • Children you’re responsible for financially 
  • You're already in the UK under the scheme

 

If you’re Indian

 

There’s a different scheme for Indian nationals. Check if you’re eligible for the India Young Professionals Scheme visa.

 

Money to support yourself- You must have at least £2,530 in your bank account to show you can support yourself in the UK.

 

You will need to have had the money available for at least 28 days in a row. Day 28 must be within 31 days of applying for this visa.

 

You’ll need to show proof of this when you apply.

Costs

You will need to:

·        Deposit application fees

·        pay the healthcare surcharge- £776 per year 

·        Show that your savings will be enough through proper bank statements.

Application fee

Fee is £298.

Required Documents

Provide the following documents during applications:

 

Valid passport and supporting documents to prove identity and show nationality

Savings of at least £2,530 in savings showing in bank statements 

Tuberculosis (TB) test results if you’re from a country that it is necessary to take the test.

A blank page is needed in your passport for your visa

If the documents are in a language other than English or Welsh, a certified translation of the said document is required as well. Additional documents can be provided upon request. 

If you’re from Andorra

 

Candidate should provide an Andorrian certificate of criminal records, documents must be less than 6 months before you apply for the Youth Mobility Scheme visa

If you’re from Hong Kong or Taiwan

 

A valid email from the Home Office confirming you were successful in the Youth Mobility Scheme ballot must be provided. 

 

If you’re from Iceland

Submit an Icelandic criminal certificate for private usage (called a Sakavottorð). It must have been issued fewer than 6 months prior to your application for the Youth Mobility Scheme visa.

 

If you are from San Marino

You must supply a letter from the Republic of San Marino's Directorate of Political and Diplomatic Affairs, Department of Foreign Affairs.

 

The letter is required to have the following:

 

  • To apply for the Youth Mobility Scheme visa, you must prove your eligibility and have been issued within the last 6 months.
  • If you are from Uruguay, you must present a Certificado de Antecedentes Judiciales (a Uruguayan certificate of judicial records). It must have been issued fewer than 6 months prior to your application for the Youth Mobility Scheme visa.
